With the flurry of new offerings in the world of EVs, you may think that you are starting to know the market quite well. If this sounds like you, then you haven’t heard of the VW ID.3 and how it is promising a giant leap forward in the all-electric revolution.
Development from Concept to Production
The ID concept was first shown back in 2016 at the Paris Motor Show, with the ID.3 specifically being unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show three years later in September 2019. The stunning design delivers signature VW compact chic with irresistible futuristic touches. VW has clearly invested a lot of time and resources to ensuring this EV will be a game-changer, and it doesn’t stop with the metallic trims, edgy alloys or athletic build.
3 models – 1 all-electric dream
First of all, the ID.3 may be small, but it’s also set to be one a power player. The electric motor offers 200hp in power and 230lb-ft in torque. Did you ever think EVs would project that kind of strength? Furthermore, fears of the battery not lasting long enough for meaningful travel can be assuaged by a quick look at the single-charge range of the ID.3
- ID.3 Pure– 45kWh battery delivering 205 miles max range
- ID.3 Pro– 58kWh battery delivering 260 miles max range
- ID.3 Pro S– 77kWh battery delivering 340 miles max range
That should get you where you need to go. You’ll be able to choose from 3 trim levels giving different equipment, wheels and other styling points. This means that there’s plenty of room to make this amazing car your own. VW is expecting to produce around 330,000 each year starting in 2021.
Other great features you can expect include an AR driver HUD, panoramic sunroof, voice assist, and more space than you imagine because the EV design allows for a longer and wider wheelbase, and more generous trunk allotment.

ID.3 stands for innovation
VW had excited future drivers of the ID.3 by unveiling several fantastic innovations, some of which will make it to the production model and some possibly not. They may also emerge as optional additions. The first are the virtual wing mirrors, which make use of advanced HD cameras on the outside of your car to project an immaculate image to a screen inside the car. It brings visibility closer to the driver. A new battery design dubbed the “chocolate bar” is part of the secret to its efficiency. Finally, there is talk of retractable LiDAR (laser-based) sensors that could add an autonomous driving feature.

Solving the charging time problem
Perhaps the greatest thing about the ID.3 is how it makes charging both easier and faster. First of all, the car is built to accept virtually any charging method and connector, so wherever you are, you can easily plug in and charge up, be it at home, the office or a public charging station. Beyond that, the ID.3 also works with wall-mounted chargers, which can offer up to 22kW of power. This option can charge your car up to 80 percent capacity in an amazing 30 minutes — yes, you read that correctly, 30 minutes.

The Next EV Age is Beginning
All-electric cars are quickly entering the automotive mainstream, but the VW ID.3 is part of a new higher order of electric vehicles that are set to change our driving world. Get excited for 2021.
